Here is how to play 201 pool rummy game on Rummyprime:
- At the beginning of the game, each player is dealt thirteen cards. The remaining cards are placed face down on the table to create the closed deck, while the top card is turned face up to form the discard pile.
- A random card is chosen as the Wild Joker. Any card with the same face value as the Wild Joker can also be used as a Wild Joker during the game.

- Once a player has formed the required sequences and sets, they must make a valid declaration. The first player to do so scores zero points. The scores of the other players are determined by multiplying the point value of their unmatched cards.
- The game continues until a player reaches either 201 points, at which point they are eliminated from the game. The player with the lowest score among the remaining players at the end is declared the winner.
Rules to Play 201 Rummy
Some key rules of 201 rummy are as follows:
- In 201 Rummy, the number of standard decks used depends on the number of players, ranging from one to two decks containing 52 cards each, including jokers. The game can be played with 2 to 6 players.
- At the beginning of the game, the dealer deals 13 cards to each player, while the remaining cards are placed face down on the table to create the draw pile. The top card of the draw pile is turned face up and put next to it, forming the discard pile.
- The gameplay starts with the player to the left of the dealer. This player can either pick a card from the draw pile or choose the top card from the discard pile. The player then needs to create valid sets and sequences using the cards in their hand and discard one card to the discard pile. The turn then passes to the next player in a clockwise direction.
- It is essential to remember certain rules while playing Pool Rummy. Your declaration, or the combination of sets and sequences, must always consist of at least two sequences, with one of them being a pure sequence. Sets should not contain the same card with the same suit more than once. For instance, having a set with two 8’s of spades (8♠️-8♠️-8♣️) is considered invalid.
How Does the Drop Option Work in 61 Rummy?
Players choose this option when they do not wish to continue with a hand. Unlike other Indian rummy variants, pool rummy has two kinds of drops.
First drop: When a player leaves the game without picking any single card it is called first drop. In this kind of drop players receive 15 penalty points which will be added to their score.
Middle drop: If a player withdraws from the game after picking one card, it is called mid drop. Once a player chooses mid drop 30 penalty points will be added to their score.
If a player misses three consecutive turns, they are automatically eliminated from the game.

- Always remember to make a pure sequence first. Without this, a player cannot make a valid declaration.
- A frequently observed mistake in Pool Rummy is when players overlook the opportunity to create larger sequences and sets, which would help them minimize the number of unmatched cards in their hand. You can make a set or sequence of more than three cards.
- Get rid of high value cards if they are not helping you to make sets or sequences.
- Pay close attention to the cards your opponents are discarding. This will help you understand the cards you shouldn’t discard.
